Don’t tell Lance…but I’m really a mountain biker!
Last year I signed up for the LIVESTRONG Challenge – a 100 mile road bike century in San Jose, CA. I set a personal goal to raise over $5,000 – and with the generous support of my family, friends, and anonymous donors – I DID it!!!
The event itself was by far, one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The city of San Jose was closed down, the streets were lined with thousands of people in yellow, and the support from the volunteers was incredible. As one point, I was riding alone down a country road. As I turned a corner, there was a family standing on the side of the road, all in yellow, cheering me on. Even their baby had a LIVESTRONG shirt on. And that’s what LIVESTRONG is all about…a community of believers who want a better world…a world without cancer.
There are many incredible cancer research foundations out there…but here’s why I chose to fundraise for LIVESTRONG:
- Lance is the man! While we all know Lance Armstrong as that guy in spandex that bikes really fast – I see him as a man that has dedicated his life to cancer awareness.
- 80 cents of every dollar donated to the LAF has supported their cancer survivorship programs and initiatives to make cancer a national priority.
- Since 1997, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised more than $250 million to support their mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.
- The LAF has provided financial resources to more than 550 organizations that conduct cancer survivorship research or offer services to people affected by cancer.
